Northeastern University's College of Business Administration today unveiled a new annual MBA scholarship to be offered to a Peace Corps volunteer returning from a two-year term-of-service. The College's "MBA Returned Peace Corps Scholarship" will be one of only a few fully-funded MBA scholarships of its type in the United States. The College of Business Administration made today's announcement at an event attended by Dr. Josephine K. Olson, Deputy Director of the Peace Corps, and James Arena-DeRosa, New England Regional Director of the Peace Corps.
"We at the Peace Corps are absolutely thrilled that the Northeastern University College of Business Administration initiated this scholarship for a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer. With the rising cost of graduate school, this scholarship will provide a wonderful opportunity to former Peace Corps volunteers with an interest in pursuing a career in business," said James Arena-DeRosa, New England Regional Director for the Peace Corps. "We hope the school benefits as well - and that Peace Corps volunteers will bring a unique international community development context into the classroom dialogue at Northeastern."
"The scholarship represents an expansion of a strong relationship that has existed between the Peace Corps and Northeastern for more than 45 years. Since 1961, 388 Northeastern alumni have served in the Peace Corps; currently we have 13 alumni serving overseas," said Tom Moore, Dean of the College of Business Administration. "Because of their strong leadership skills and dedication, Returned Peace Corps Volunteers will be very attractive prospects for our corporate partners."
The "Northeastern University MBA/Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Scholarship" will be offered to a returned Peace Corps volunteer who is accepted into the full-time MBA program. It is valued up to full tuition. The MBA Admissions Committee will consider work experience, particularly with the Peace Corps, demonstrated leadership ability and potential, academic and personal qualities.
