On Sunday, hundreds of workers at the ConAgra facility in Milton, Pennsylvania ratified a new contract with their employer. Highlights of the three-year agreement between the over 700 members of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 38 and ConAgra include:
* A fair pay structure that ensures everyone in the plant is paid equally for their work.
* Maintained the affordable, quality health care benefits while improving dental and vision coverage.
* Wage increases that average $1.87 per hour over the three-year-agreement.
* Improved retirement security pension.
The contract was overwhelmingly approved by the membership by more than 90%
"We are very proud of this contract and for our members who stood together to sustain good wages and benefits while maintaining profitability for the company. This contract shows that it''s possible with the right leadership for labor and management to work together to achieve a contract that will help our local economy prosper," said UFCW Local 38 President Russ Baker.
UFCW Local 38 represents over 1500 workers at locations in the Milton and Bloomsburg areas.
The UFCW represents 1.3 million workers, 250,000 in the meatpacking and poultry industries. UFCW members also work in the health care, garment, chemical, distillery and retail industries.
