Adventist Health of Portland, Ore., has named Ron Benfield chief operating officer. In this role, Benfield is responsible for the strategic management and oversight of all of the health system's day-to-day operations, including those of its east Portland hospital, Adventist Medical Center. Benfield will report to Tom Russell, president and CEO of Adventist Health in Portland.

Benfield has more than 30 years of health care leadership experience throughout the country, including 11 years with Adventist Health System. Most recently, he served as vice president and chief financial officer for Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Md. Before that he held similar positions at Adventist Health System's Florida Hospital Waterman in Tavares, Fla., and at Southeast Region and Tennessee Christian Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.
Benfield completed his undergraduate degree in business administration at Pacific Union College in Angwin, Calif. He went on to earn his M.B.A in finance from California State University, San Bernardino, and completed Ohio State University's executive program in healthcare management. He is an active member of professional and civic organizations, including American College of Healthcare Executives, Healthcare Financial Management Association and Silver Spring Interfaith Housing Coalition in Silver Spring, Md. He serves on the board of Adventist Health International. He looks forward to becoming engaged in the Portland community.
Benfield and his wife Joyce, a registered nurse, relocated to Portland to accept the position at Adventist Health. They have two adult daughters. In his spare time, Benfield enjoys playing the cello, running, biking, and traveling both domestically and abroad.
