Rare Mix of Business, Government, Multilaterals, Nonprofits, Donors
How to make big strategies and specific program ideas work will be the focus of a rare cross-sector mix of senior executives and program implementers at the Global Health Action conference in Washington June 7-8. The conference will emphasize funding and partnership opportunities, both public-private and innovative "collective actions," which include collaboration among multiple businesses.
Registration is now open. The 2009 Global Health Action conference attracted over 600 participants from major multinational companies, government, nonprofits, and multilaterals.
"At the conference, we'll focus less on academic theory and more on the nuts and bolts of how to build strong partnerships and strong programs that are cost-effective and move the needle on global health," said John Tedstrom, President and CEO of the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Among those who will be leading the conference discussions and defining partnership opportunities:
- Condoleezza Rice, Former U.S. Secretary of State, special honoree
- Melanne Verveer, President Obama's ambassador for global women's issues
- Pulitzer Prize-winning author Laurie Garrett
- Ambassador Eric Goosby, U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator
- Susan Smith Ellis, CEO of (RED);
- Alexander Cummings, Chief Administrative Officer and Executive Vice President, The Coca-Cola Company
- Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, CEO of Access Bank and Chairman, Friends of the Global Fund Africa;
- Dr. Michel Kazatchkine, executive director, the Global Fund;
