Ende des Jahres 2002 betrug das Vermögen der deutschen Investmentfonds rund 862 Mrd Euro. Davon entfielen 480 Mrd Euro auf Spezialfonds und 382 Mrd Euro auf Publimkumsfonds. Zum Jahreswechsel verwaltete die deutsche Investmentbranche 7.766 Fonds. Im Jahresverlauf wurden 318 Fonds neu aufgelegt, 187 Fonds wurden geschlossen.
Das Gesamtvermögen der Publikumfonds setzt sich wie folgt zusammen:
-Aktienfonds: 115,3 Mrd Euro -Rentenfonds: 114,4 Mrd Euro -Offene Immobilienfonds: 71,2 Mrd Euro -Geldmarktfonds: 58,5 Mrd Euro -gemischte Fonds: 22,7 Mrd Euro
