MARKET OVERVIEW
Overseas markets have failed to deviate vastly from yesterday's closes as eight of the 15 markets that we track are currently positive. The cumulative average return on the group stands at a relatively flattish minus 0.074 percent. The big drag on the group is the 0.87 percent decline by the Nikkei overnight. The index exits this week lower by 2.18 percent, but is still higher by 4.78 percent on the year. With one trading week left in this month, the Nikkei continues to hold above its 10-month moving average, which currently occupies the area around 11,100. According to the first look at second quarter Gross Domestic Product (GDP) numbers out of the United Kingdom, that economy is growing at its fastest pace in some four years. This first look at GDP showed the second quarter growing at 0.9 percent over the first quarter, which improved by 0.7 percent over Q4. The economy grew by 3.7 percent on a year-over-year basis, besting the plus 3.4 percent showing in Q1. Analysts were looking for plus 1.0 percent and plus 3.6 percent respectively. The FTSE 100 Index happens to be our best performing index this morning.

With the heavily-fluctuating stock markets giving investors little to cheer about, an important bill has quietly passed through Congress and received George Bush's signature earlier this week.
