BEIJING (AFX) - Clear Channel Entertainment, a subsidiary of Clear Channel Communications of the US, has entered into a 50-year joint venture with cultural agency Beijing Gehua Cultural Development Group, the companies announced in a news conference.
"We are honored to have been chosen to bring Western entertainment to Beijing, and we look forward to using the Clear Channel Entertainment global network of venues and experts to market traditional Chinese culture throughout the world," said Clear Channel Entertainment chief executive Brian Becker.
The company will be named Gehua Clear Channel Entertainment and Sports Co Ltd, and will be headquartered in Beijing with satellite offices in New York and London.
The company has a 50-year first right of refusal to stage live tours of performance shows, promote international events, manage venues and artists, and handle merchandising.
Gehua Clear Channel will bring international entertainment and sports events to China, provide opportunities for Chinese artists to tour internationally, and create event and venue management systems within the Chinese sports and entertainment industries.
This is the first such agreement after three years of discussions between Chinese officials and Clear Channel Entertainment.
