Melodeo, Inc., the innovator and first provider of
mobile podcasting, today released Mobilcast(TM) software for
Motorola's newest line of phones, the Motorola ROKR and RAZR.
Mobilcast provides users with fast, easy access to thousands of
podcasts from entertainment and comedy, to news and sports commentary.
Melodeo's Mobilcast technology, unveiled in August, allows users to search and download podcasts directly from their phones, over the cell phone network without a PC connection. The free software is available for download for select Nokia phones at www.melodeo.com/mobilcast. Mobilcast for the Motorola ROKR and RAZR is currently in limited beta, and will be released more broadly in mid-October.
"The podcasting phenomenon is exploding worldwide and Melodeo is at the forefront with its Mobilcast technology," said Jim Billmaier, CEO at Melodeo. "The ability to access podcasts from one's mobile phone is not only a major industry milestone, but a surefire way to bring even more lift to this exciting trend."
"Mobilcast is a step towards making podcasts a truly worldwide phenomenon as it gives people the ability to listen to podcasts without a PC," said Alex Williams, executive producer of Podcast Hotel. "With Mobilcast, people can access the podcasts they want, when they want, and listen to their favorite indie music and programs wherever they may be."
Extensive Catalogue, Powerful Search
Mobilcast is designed to help users quickly and easily search for and play podcasts on their mobile phones. Mobilcast includes a regularly updated catalogue of podcast titles that resides on the phone and currently includes titles within diverse categories such as arts and entertainment, news, business, and comedy. Mobilcast's easy-to-use PowerSearch(TM) technology enables users to quickly browse podcasts by category or title with just one or two clicks and no waiting time. Upon selecting a podcast, the user receives a summary of episode details such as author/publisher and running time, and can then choose to download the episode.
Downloaded podcasts reside on the phone, providing a truly mobile user experience. Mobilcast includes fast forward and rewind capabilities. When a call is received during the playback of an episode, the podcast pauses and resumes upon termination of the call.
More Than Just a Phone
This August, Melodeo announced the availability of its breakthrough Mobilcast software that enables mobile phone users to directly access thousands of the most popular podcasts through their handset. Melodeo has released its technology on more than sixteen mass market phone models in 2005 alone.
The Melodeo team has a long history of inventing and launching first to market technology with groundbreaking new features for cellphones. In addition to the world's first mobile podcasting software, Melodeo remains the only company to have commercially launched record-label approved, peer-to-peer file sharing on mobile phones.
