McGraw-Hill Professional Launches AccessEmergency Medicine

NEW YORK, Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- McGraw-Hill Professional, a leading global provider of information resources for the scientific and medical communities, today announced the launch of AccessEmergency Medicine (http://www.accessem.com/), a complete online service that allows users to quickly search for the clinical features, diagnosis and treatment for the entire scope of problems that present in the Emergency Department.

AccessEmergency Medicine includes instructional videos for key clinical procedures, decision rules, and crisis interventions performed in the Emergency Department. AccessEmergency Medicine was developed in conjunction with the American College of Emergency Physicians.

The development of AccessEmergency Medicine was guided by experts in the field of emergency medicine. Judith Tintinalli, MD, MS, editor of the best-selling Tintinalli's Emergency Medicine, and Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is editor-in-chief of the site. Stephen H. Thomas, MD, MPH, Associate Professor of Surgery, Harvard Medical School, and Aaron Hexdall, MD, Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at New York University School of Medicine and Bellevue Hospital Center, are members of the editorial advisory board.

AccessEmergency Medicine offers complete coverage of common and uncommon procedures in the emergency department with all the information physicians need to retrieve and review quickly -- indications, contraindications, approaches, materials and complications. To aid in quick diagnosis and treatment decisions, the information service provides multimedia resources, illustrations, imaging studies, algorithms and clinical presentations fully integrated with the text.

An invaluable resource to emergency physicians, AccessEmergency Medicine is also an ideal tool for resident and student education, and for emergency nursing and paramedic information. The text, drawings and videos are excellent for teaching skills and procedures critical for residents preparing for board certification examination.

The web-based resource leverages McGraw-Hill's most trusted emergency medical resources in pediatrics, orthopedics, and OB/GYN including:

* Tintinalli's Emergency Medicine: A Comprehensive Study Guide, 6th edition, Judith E. Tintinalli, Gabor D. Kelen, J. Stephan Stapczynski * Emergency Medicine Manual, 6th edition, O. John Ma, David M. Cline, Judith E. Tintinalli, Gabor D. Kelen, J. Stephan Stapczynski * Emergency Medicine Procedures, Eric F. Reichman, Robert R. Simon * Emergency Ultrasound, O. John Ma, James R. Mateer * Pediatric Emergency Medicine, 2nd edition, Gary R. Strange, William R. Ahrens, Steven Lelyveld, Robert W. Schafermeyer * Obstetric and Gynecologic Emergencies: Diagnosis and Management, Mark D. Pearlman, Judith E. Tintinalli, Pamela L. Dyne * Emergency Orthopedics, 5th edition, Robert R. Simon, Scott C. Storrow * Fitzpatrick's Color Atlas and Synopsis of Clinical Dermatology, Klaus Wolff, Richard Allen Johnson, Dick Suurmond * Atlas of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Binita R. Shah, Michael Lucchesi

"This service was designed with the immediacy of emergency medicine in mind," said Michael Hays, vice president of McGraw-Hill Professional's Digital group. "These professionals need quick access to answers so we created a semantically driven search capability that offers links to deeper information. We also made sure users could quickly narrow their search to the procedure, specialty or format they specifically need."

Complete drug information throughout the site offers immediate access to chemical structure and dosing information, adverse reactions, indications and contraindications, as well as patient education in English and Spanish and full-color photos of all formulations.

"This tool raises the bar for how emergency physicians access reference information," said Tom Werlinich, associate executive director of educational and professional products for the American College of Emergency Physicians. "We are pleased to join McGraw-Hill in providing physicians, emergency care professionals and students with the best resources available in the most convenient and useful format."

The latest addition to McGraw-Hill Professional's offering of online medical resources, AccessEmergency Medicine is part of a series of specialty-focused sites that build directly upon the success of AccessMedicine, an online service that provides access to numerous world-renowned McGraw-Hill medical references for general practitioners and medical students.
