VirtualLogix collaborated with Intel on the technology to develop the compelling VoIP demonstration. Intel Developer Forum attendees will benefit from seeing this demonstration of how real-time virtualization can provide isolation and QoS between virtual appliances and the application OS, including Windows® or Linux, allowing service providers to run multiple appliances, maintain system security and drive new opportunities in the VoIP business market by creating high-quality VoIP and management functionality for their customers.
Many businesses rely on VoIP for communication service, making high quality and reliability of service essential to business success. The combination of VirtualLogix Real-Time Virtualization and Intel vPro processor technologies represents a breakthrough that could potentially avoid service outages. Through partitioning of resources and setting the VoIP as a virtual appliance separate from the desktop Operating System, they remain independent of each other, but can cooperate via efficient communication mechanisms. In addition, the unique capabilities of real-time virtualization ensure sufficient processing resources are assigned to the virtual appliance, creating significantly increased QoS and more efficient services.
According to In-Stat research, the VoIP market swelled by 34 million new subscriptions in 2006, furthermore they predict that by 2011 the consumer VoIP market will total nearly $44 billion worldwide. VirtualLogix's real-time virtualization technology (VLX) enables multiple Operating Systems, called guest OSes, to run simultaneously on the same processor. VLX virtualizes the hardware giving each guest OS its own virtual machine, and manages key system resources to isolate the guest OSes from the underlying hardware and each other. Typically, physical memory is partitioned between the guest OSes while the CPU, FPU, MMU or some other system parts such as the real-time clock and interrupt controller are virtualized by VirtualLogix VLX. This approach, combined with its small footprint and ability to handle high throughput environments, enables the VirtualLogix VLX virtualization technology to also be applied to embedded and real-time systems.
