Cessna Selects Garmin's G1000(R) for the Caravan

ATLANTA, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. , today announced that Cessna Aircraft Company, a Textron Inc. company has selected the G1000 integrated avionics suite for the Caravan. Cessna produces three versions of the Caravan: Caravan 675, Grand Caravan and Super Cargomaster. The G1000 with GFC 700 flight control system will be the standard avionics package available for all Caravan models beginning in the first half of 2008.

"The Caravan is known throughout the industry as being an extremely reliable and versatile aircraft, which are attributes that are also found in the G1000 avionics suite," said Gary Kelley, Garmin's vice president of marketing. "We are very pleased that Cessna has chosen the G1000, and are confident that future Caravan customers will enjoy the added safety and advanced technology."

"Our customers have been very satisfied with the Garmin G1000 system in our single-engine products and the Citation Mustang," said Jack Pelton, chairman, president and CEO of Cessna Aircraft. "We're delighted to offer the same high level of glass panel technology to our Caravan customers."

When sitting in the Caravan's new G1000-equipped cockpit, pilots will see three, high-definition, 10-inch displays that make it easy to scan and process information. The G1000 system integrates primary flight information, navigation, communication, terrain, traffic, weather, and Engine Instrumentation and Crew Alerting System (EICAS).

One of the many G1000 features Caravan operators will appreciate is the G1000's full-reversionary mode that allows all flight-critical data to transfer seamlessly to the second primary flight display (PFD) to serve as a back-up display if needed. This characteristic is especially important to the Caravan fleet because it regularly logs more than 71,000 hours a month in some of the world's most extreme environments. Other important G1000 characteristics include,

-- Three-axis, all-digital automatic flight control system -- Dual solid-state Attitude and Heading Reference System that can align while in motion, including in-flight dynamic restarts -- Dual integrated radio modules that support VHF communications, VHF navigation with ILS and Class Gama 3 WAAS that provides the capability to execute LPV approaches -- Dual digital air-data computer -- Mode S transponder with Traffic Information Service -- Worldwide terrain and obstacle database plus optional Class-B Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) Digital audio control system -- TKS ice protection annunciation support -- Garmin FliteCharts(TM) that give pilots access to all 17,500 approach plates currently published by the National Aeronautical Chart Office (NACO) -- Garmin SafeTaxi(TM) that identifies runways, taxiways and hangars, as well as the aircraft's exact location on the field

Also available as optional equipment on the Caravan is Garmin's GWX 68(TM) weather radar, GDL 69A(TM) XM Satellite radio and weather, ChartView(TM), and second transponder.
