With the Missouri National Guard in the midst of its largest single unit deployment since World War I, many family members are left to handle life's curveballs. Sometimes, these families turn to the Missouri Military Family Relief Fund for help paying for the unanticipated, such as home or car repairs and medical bills.
To ensure that National Guard families can receive the financial aid they need, TriWest Healthcare Alliance is contributing $15,000 to the Missouri Military Family Relief Fund. The Adjutant General of the Missouri National Guard, Maj. Gen. King Sidwell, will receive the contribution from TriWest's Don Brown, market vice president for the central market, and Dennis Leahy, service area director for Missouri, at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the National Guard Headquarters, 2302 Militia Drive in Jefferson City.
"For some of these families, they may not have the resources available to help them as they would at military posts and bases like Fort Leonard Wood or Whiteman Air Force Base," said TriWest President and CEO David J. McIntyre, Jr. "TriWest made the contribution to provide National Guard service members and their families some relief during challenging times."
There are currently 7,700 members of the Missouri National Guard, of which 80 percent have been mobilized for active duty since 2001. More than 1,000 Missouri Guardsmen are serving as peacekeepers in Kosovo.
"TriWest continues to be a steady partner that recognizes the realities of military service and its impact on our families," Maj. Gen. Sidwell said. "We are grateful to TriWest for this contribution, which will help make life easier for Guard members and their families."
TriWest's contribution is part of its holiday "Giving to the Guard" campaign, providing support to the National Guard throughout 21 western states. Last year, TriWest also contributed $15,000 to the Missouri Military Family Relief Fund.
