Legal Legends Awards Dinner to be held Friday, November 6, 7 p.m. at the Mayfair Hotel
The Historical Museum of Southern Florida’s 11th Judicial Circuit Historical Society to host 2009 Legal Legends Awards Dinner, November 6th at 7:00 p.m. at the Mayfair Hotel & Spa, 3300 Grand Avenue in Coconut Grove.
This prestigious award is given to those that have made substantial contributions to the legal system in South Florida for 25 years or more. "This is not your typical legal award because these are not just legal luminaries; their stories and accomplishments will be forever recorded as part of the museum’s collection," said Cristina Blanco, 11th Judicial Circuit Historical Society Director and VP at the Historical Museum of Southern Florida.
This year's honorees are:
WALTER H. BECKHAM, JR.: Attorney, former University of Miami law professor and founding member of the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
TALBOT “SANDY’ D’ALEMBERTE: Attorney, FSU law professor and former president of the American Bar Association.
ELIZABETH J. DU FRESNE: Attorney and one of only two women in her graduating class at the University of Florida Law School in 1964.
HON. RICHARD E. GERSTEIN (POSTHUMOUSLY): former Dade County State Attorney who won the first conviction in the Watergate Scandal in 1973 that would eventually force President Nixon to resign.
HON. JESSE J. McCRARY, JR. (POSTHUMOUSLY): Attorney and the first African American Secretary of State in Florida since reconstruction under Governor Askew.
HON. PETER R. PALERMO: U.S. Magistrate who at age 91 is one of the longest serving judges in the United States and the first mayor of West Miami.
NEAL R. SONNETT: Attorney and former president of the American Judicature Society. He has represented high profile clients including Manuel Noriega and Jack Abramoff.
