Equipment for continuous HDTV broadcasting
Dubai-based Qvest Media announced today that its German sister company Wellen+Noethen won the contract to lease out the media technology for the live broadcasting of the 2010 Winter Olympics for German television. The contract was placed by German public broadcaster ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen).
The broadcaster will provide live HDTV coverage of the Winter Games. Much of the required tapeless high definition production and broadcasting technology will be supplied and preconfigured in different test environments by Wellen+Noethen. The equipment will then be combined with ZDF's existing HD technology and delivered to Vancouver and Whistler Mountain, where it will go into operation.
In addition to broadcasting and production solutions from companies such as Avid, EVS, Grass Valley, Snell and Sony, several of the leased equipments will be sourced from various Qvest Media partners for whom the company is the responsible distributor in the Middle East Region. LYNX, for example, is contributing glue equipment including various converters and modules from the 5000 series. For the communication system, ZDF will be supplied with several Artist matrix intercom systems from Riedel.
"Projects like the Olympic Games demonstrate that we have the technical know-how, financial capital and product range to provide TV broadcasters for major sports events with broadcasting equipment for all areas of production," says Qvest Media's General Manager Stephan Seelaender. "Together with our expert German sister company Wellen+Noethen, we are also ideally equipped for major events in the Middle East Region. We already supply our technology to various TV broadcasters and production companies in the Middle East to cover sports events such as Formula 1 in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi, the Red Bull Air Race in Dubai and the transmission of the UEFA Champions League in Qatar. Our medium-term objective is to be represented at other sports events such as the Dubai World Cup, the Hockey Asia Cup, the AFC Asia Cup, Race to Dubai and the Desert Challenge."
