CQ5 provides single platform for pharmaceutical firm's 26 country websites and global intranet
Boehringer Ingelheim, one of Europe's leading pharmaceutical firms, is consolidating its entire global Internet and intranet web presences onto Day Software's CQ5 content management platform. Boehringer Ingelheim's main corporate website (http://www.boehringer-ingelheim.com) and Netherlands Internet presence (http://www.boehringer-ingelheim.nl) have already been re-engineered on the basis of Day Software's (http://www.day.com) CQ5 content management system (CMS). The porting of the remainder of its entire 26 country presences and corporate intranet to CQ5 is set to follow.
The aim of this re-launch is to standardize the internal and external websites and optimize the company's business processes. In the future, all countries will be able to access a single system and easily share, localize, and reuse content from the central corporate website at any time. Leveraging CQ5, Boehringer Ingelheim automatically guarantees a uniform look and feel and compliance with corporate policy by web editors – both in Germany and at all the company's foreign subsidiaries.
Intuitive and international
Boehringer Ingelheim's choice of CQ5 was sealed by Day's intuitive user interface (GUI), which makes creating and managing websites simple and fun – even for users without prior technical knowledge. Moreover, the solution's support for rapid globalization and its ability to be integrated into the legacy IT infrastructure allow CQ5 to be tailored precisely to the unique needs of Boehringer Ingelheim and its numerous international subsidiaries. The pharmaceutical company also placed great emphasis on choosing a "future proof" system which benefits from ongoing R&D investment.
Social collaboration for blogs and site visitor feedback
In addition to Day's leading web content management solution, Boehringer Ingelheim also leveraged Day's complete unified suite of Digital Asset Management (DAM) and Social Collaboration (SoCo) software. Day's DAM module enables Boehringer Ingelheim to manage large quantities of rich media – such as videos and audio files – without difficulty, and Day's Social Collaboration module provides integrated community support in their websites to allow for enhanced customer engagement and feedback leveraging Day's integrated blogging and commenting capabilities. Of further interest was CQ5's extensive search functionality to simplify end-user discovery of relevant content on Boehringer Ingelheim's websites, the easy integration of numerous critical external applications into their web presences, and support for personalized site subscriptions through RSS.
Development from the user's perspective
"A major advantage for us was that CQ5 is extremely flexible and supports easy implementation. This allowed us to realize the project ourselves, despite the complexity of the undertaking," said Manuela Pastore, Director Online Communications at Boehringer Ingelheim. "CQ5's intuitive user interface also makes it a pleasure for authors to use the system. With CQ5, we've invested in a future-proof solution which will also position us to realize many more upcoming concepts."
A content management system for every website
Despite a range of challenges, such as a tight schedule and the organizational challenge of coordinating rollout across numerous divisions around the globe, Day was able to implement the complex project with its partner, Logica, within just eight months. The successful launch of Boehringer Ingelheim's main Internet website and first national web presence (Netherlands) will now be followed by five further migrations – including Germany's – in the first half of 2010. Boehringer Ingelheim plans on taking advantage of Day's fun-to-use, empowering GUI to support fast rollout to an increasing number of business users as the number of country-specific websites and entire intranet updates to their new content management standard. Looking forward, Boehringer Ingelheim will also continue integrating various applications into its CQ5-hosted web presences, including SAP, and build out its multi-channel communications strategy with output to mobile devices.
