Sheriff to Present Results of Suspect Detection Systems Pilot in Bergen County Jail / Proprietary Automated Detection System Exposed Criminal Conduct Among Prison Inmates

NEW YORK, June 24, 2010 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Suspect Detection Systems Inc., (SDSS.OB), proprietor of counter terrorism and crime prevention technology developed by its subsidiary Suspect Detection Systems Ltd., announced today that the Sheriff of Bergen County, New Jersey will be presenting the results of a recent pilot of the company's Cogito Technology during a session at the 70th Annual National Sheriff's Association Conference.

The conference is scheduled to take place in Anaheim, California on June 25th through 30th.

The recent pilot tested the ability of the proprietary Cogito rapid survey system to expose criminal behavior among prison inmates. Cogito was able to discover guilty associations as well as identify the hostile intent of prisoners to commit harmful acts within the prison walls.

The Bergen County Jail is a large, 1,250 bed facility, staffed by more than 300 corrections officers. The Cogito system was tested for its ability to add a layer of protection and enhance safety for both inmates and officers.

An article on the pilot written by Leo P. McGuire, Sheriff of Bergen County, appeared recently in Sheriff Magazine. To read the article, visit http://tinyurl.com/SDS-BergenCounty.

"In Bergen County, we have seen promising results when administering the Cogito system as part of our traditional intake procedures," said Sheriff McGuire. "In our preliminary results, the system has proven helpful in determining if detainees are currently on drugs, have drugs on them, are involved in gang activity or may be trying to smuggle contraband into the jail."

"We look forward to continuing this partnership with Suspect Detection Systems, Inc. to realize the full potential of this innovative and cutting-edge technology," Sheriff McGuire added.

"We are committed to utilizing technology in a way that helps us be proactive instead of reactive," said Robert Bigott, Warden of Bergen County. "If Cogito can help us prevent dangerous situations from arising in the first place inside our doors, then it has the potential to save money, manpower and even lives."

"The successful pilot in Bergen County is the first with a county sheriff's office in the United States," said Gil Boosidan, CEO of Suspect Detection Systems Inc. "We are extremely pleased with the results and hope they serve as a positive example of our technology's capabilities and its application in the large U.S. law enforcement and homeland security markets."
