Cooperation grants win-win situation for all partners
Zörbig/Kabelsketal/Leipzig, July 7, 2010. A worldwide so far unique
combination of plants went into operation on July 6, 2010 in Zörbig:
bioethanol, biogas and bio-fertiliser are industrially produced on a 12
hectare wide and conveniently placed, as regards transport facilities,
area. The operator of the plants, which are connected through the
production process, is VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG based in Zörbig. The
MITGAS Verteilnetz GmbH (MITGAS NETZ) undertakes the feed-in of the yearly
performance amounting to about 370 million kilowatt hours biogas into its
high pressure gas net. This amount relates to an energy demand of about
37,000 modern single-family houses.
Not only the bioethanol and biogas plants were built with internal know-how
but also the production process is based on self-developed process
technology. 'We are in the innovative field of renewable energies, there is
this the only way to assure that we fulfil our targets to build
non-polluting plants and to reach a maximum CO2 reduction', says Claus
Sauter, CEO of VERBIO and continues 'We are pleased to have found a
reliable partner in MITGAS NETZ, who feeds-in our biogas into its gas
distribution system.' The feed-in plant with compression and connection
bend is under responsibility of MITGAS NETZ. Investment costs for the
feed-in amount to about EUR 5.5 million.
'Biogas feed-in plants are comparatively new for net operators,' says
Thomas Scheer, Managing Director of MITGAS NETZ. 'Due to the increasing
promotion of renewable energies by the politics we have, since 2007,
already connected the third biogas plant to our gas high pressure net in
Saxony-Anhalt. Further plants will follow.' Therefore MITGAS NETZ feeds in
clearly more biogas, that it is the average in Germany, according to
Scheer.
Background:
VERBIO is one of the leading producers and suppliers of biofuels and also
the only industrial-scale producer of biodiesel and bioethanol in Europe.
Nominal capacity amounts to around 450,000 tons of biodiesel and 300,000
tons of bioethanol per year. Currently, VERBIO is realizing biogas projects
to make use of the residual materials of the bioethanol production. The
company has developed its own processes and innovative technologies for the
production of biodiesel, bioethanol and biogas. It supplies its products
directly to European mineral oil corporations, mineral oil traders,
independent gas stations and haulage companies. VERBIO AG also markets
high-quality pharmaglycerin for the consumer goods and cosmetic industries
(glycerine is a by-product of biodiesel production). Within the Group,

MITGAS Verteilnetz GmbH (MITGAS NETZ) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of
MITGAS Mitteldeutsche Gasversorgung GmbH (MITGAS). MITGAS NETZ is as local
network operator reliable for planning, operation and marketing of the gas
distribution system. The distribution system area contains swaths of Saxony
and Saxony-Anhalt as well as parts of Thuringia and Brandenburg. The
distribution network has a length of over 7,000 kilometres. In the
distribution system area, about 187,000 customers are connected to the gas
distribution system. A multiplicity of retailers is active in the net of
MITGAS NETZ.
