Contest Builds on Go-Solar Campaign Starring Former "Dallas" Star Larry Hagman
To celebrate mounting enthusiasm for its "Shine, baby, shine!" campaign featuring former "Dallas" star Larry Hagman and unfolding in national media coverage and advertising, SolarWorld today launches a contest to award a free, installed Sunkits® residential solar system to the eligible U.S. resident who submits a video that makes the biggest splash in calling on Americans to "Shine, baby, shine!" by going solar.
In the contest, running from today through Nov. 1, the largest and most experienced manufacturer of crystalline photovoltaic technology will give away a 2-kilowatt solar power system valued at more than $12,000, featuring eight high-performance Sunmodule® solar panels, an inverter, racking and conduit, as well as complete system installation. Solar power systems not only slash monthly electric utility bills but also protect against rising utility rates; once installed, they generate power without additional costs.
SolarWorld is staging its "Shine, baby, shine!" contest in step with its publicity and ad campaign starring Hagman, best known for his portrayal of oil tycoon J.R. Ewing on the 13-year hit series "Dallas." In advertising rolling out in the United States and Europe, Hagman, owner of the largest U.S. residential solar system, reflects on the bygone heyday of U.S. oil dependence and on the advent of clean, plentiful energy from solar technology.
"The need for the country to embrace this clean, affordable substitute to fossil fuels is serious, but that doesn't mean we can't have fun making this exciting shift," said Kevin Kilkelly, president of U.S. sales for SolarWorld. "By embracing high-quality solar technology made by American workers on U.S. soil, we can take heart in improving our energy, environmental and economic heading. In applauding Americans who share their solar inspiration in this contest, we also can spread the cheer."
By noon (PDT) Oct. 25, participants aged 18 or older from the 48 contiguous states, excluding New York and Florida, may submit videos of 60 seconds or less in which they explain why they want to go solar and recite the "Shine, baby, shine!" slogan. Videos will appear on www.SolarWorld-USA.com/Shine and voters will use Facebook "Likes" to weigh in on the best entries until noon (PDT) Nov. 1. The winner will be announced by noon (PST) Nov. 15.
Aside from the grand-prize winner, the next nine contest finishers will win a $1,000 credit toward a Sunkits system and a backpack featuring solar power to charge electronic devices. The first 2,500 entrants will receive a bright yellow "Shine, baby, shine!" button and sticker.
