FORT MILL, S.C., March 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Continental Tire the Americas (CTA) today announced a voluntary recall involving 390,657 light truck tires after reviews indicated these tires may experience uneven wear, vibration or particularly under conditions of overloading or under inflation in high ambient temperature usage, separation between the belt edges potentially leading to a tread separation.
Most of the affected tires were installed as original equipment on certain 2008 and 2009 model year Ford Motor Company F-250 and F-350 trucks. Approximately 60,000 of the 390,657 tires were sold in the tire replacement markets.
These tires met all Federal safety standards, however these tires did not meet Continental's performance expectations in the field. The tires were manufactured between May 2007 and September 2008 in the company's San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico.
Continental Tire the Americas will notify owners of affected vehicles and will make available replacement tires free of charge.
Continental Tire the Americas notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) March 14, 2011 of its voluntary U.S. recall campaign and is beginning an intensive communication with dealers, wholesalers as well as customers who purchased the tires.
