The online degree provider is recognized by Military Advanced Education magazine for the fifth time
Capella University (http://www.capella.edu), an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, has been named a "Top Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities Honoree" by Military Advanced Education magazine for the fifth time. Capella was chosen for the honor based on its student feedback, degree programs, and military-friendly policies. The publication sought the expertise of education services officers from all the military branches for their guidance and comprehensive understanding of what constitutes a truly military-friendly institution.
Capella has a dedicated team of military support advisors to assist students affiliated with the military. As of Sept. 30, 2011, more than 35,000 students are pursuing an online degree at Capella, with nearly 80 percent enrolled in Capella's doctoral degree programs and master's degree programs. Approximately 12 percent of Capella students are affiliated with the military.
"We are honored to have been recognized as a military-friendly institution for the fifth time," said John Hayes, military support supervisor for Capella. "It is a testament to our steadfast commitment to supporting military servicemembers and their families throughout their educational journeys."
The online university has received other recognitions for its support of the military. "The Next Mission," a documentary inspired by the Capella University study "Joining Forces America" about the mental health needs of members of the military returning from combat duty, received a regional Emmy award. Capella has also been recognized by the Minnesota National Guard and former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty as a Yellow Ribbon organization for its support of military servicemembers and military family members.
