The Mission in Citrus Presents Award to Walmart for Their Commitment to Veterans

CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla., March 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --The Mission in Citrus proudly presents our new Veteran's award to Walmart, and Inverness Florida store manager Larry Gamble. Their commitment to Veterans has helped with education, housing, food, and much more. They have committed millions towards Veteran's causes. We applaud them.

The Mission in Citrus Homeless Shelters proudly presented Walmart, and Inverness Florida Manager Larry Gamble, the new Commitment to Veteran's Award. It includes both a POW - MIA, and American Flag. It represents all branches of the military, and includes the Cross to honor all those who gave their lives to protect our freedoms.

As one of the largest private employers of veterans, Walmart has recognized and supports those who have served our country. Their current initiatives include:

  • Actively recruiting former military personnel;
  • Helping former active-duty military employees transition into civilian jobs;
  • Assisting veterans as they pursue their educational goals; and
  • Providing access to behavioral health and family services for veterans and their families, and helping homeless veterans back into homes.

Walmart committed billions towards fighting hunger, and other initiatives which reach many veterans in need.

Hopefully other corporations follow Walmart, as no veteran should be without a home or beg for food.

Walmart's military family promise program guarantees a job at a nearby store or club for all military personnel, and military spouses, employed at Walmart or Sam's Club who move to a different part of the country because they or their spouse have been transferred by the U.S. military. Few realize that Walmart U.S. President and CEO Bill Simon is a Veteran, having served 25 years in the Navy and Navy Reserves.

Without Walmart Manager Larry Gamble, the Mission in Citrus Veteran's Shelter would have never survived. The shelter was started on less than $5000 and is comparable in size to $ 2.7 million dollar shelters. The shelter is now in its third year. It is operated by formerly and presently homeless Veterans. There are no paid staff members. It is a miracle in itself.

"To Larry Gamble and Walmart: We would like to say thank you and God Bless," stated a representative from The Mission in Citrus.
