World T.E.A.M. Sports' 2012 Face of America Ride Brings Together Disabled, Able-Bodied Cyclists

WASHINGTON, March 21, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Wounded warriors from America's military are encouraged to participate in World T.E.A.M. Sports' Face of America bicycle ride from the Pentagon near Washington to the historic battlefields of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania this April 27-29.

Presented by Virginia-based Capital One Financial Corporation, the Face of America ride brings together wounded warriors, disabled athletes, active and retired military, and the general public in an inclusive, supportive ride. For 110 miles over two days, participants on hand cycles, recumbents and bicycles ride side-by-side through large and small communities, along scenic country lanes in this fully supported ride.

Originally created as a cross-country bicycle ride in 2000, since 2006, the Face of America has traveled between our nation's capitol and Gettysburg. World T.E.A.M. Sports creates inclusive events such as the Face of America to bring together disabled and able-bodied participants. At the non-profit organization's many events over the last two decades, lives are changed through the supportive nature of sport. The participation by disabled athletes inspires and encourages other participants, as well as spectators and supporters.

Through sponsorship support from companies such as Capital One, Booz Allen Hamilton, General Electric and Virginia's Revolution Cycles, disabled veterans participate at no cost, with food and lodging provided. Disabled veterans outside of the Washington area receive free air transportation to and from Washington for the event. Generous fundraising support from participating able-bodied athletes provides additional support for the wounded warriors. Any funds remaining following the event are applied to the non-profit's upcoming events, such as the cross-country Sea to Shining Sea bicycle ride this May through July.

Interested disabled and able-bodied athletes may register for the Face of America online at http://worldteamsports.kintera.org/faceofamerica2012. There is a limit of 500 participants in the ride this year, with 100 disabled participants expected. The public is invited to come out along the route in support of the riders, and to also offer sponsorship support for participating athletes with online donations. Through mid-March, participants from 32 states had registered for the ride.
