USW Local 286 members at the Salt Lake City Tesoro refinery are in the midst of contract negotiations and are fighting steep cuts to their retirement security and the company's demand to unilaterally change benefits during the term of the contract without first bargaining with the union. The National Labor Relations Act gives unions the legal right to bargain over benefits.
