SUNDAY, APRIL 1: AZALEA FESTIVAL
Profile America - Sunday, April 1st. Now that spring is here, people are taking trips to enjoy the natural beauty of some of the nation's premier parks and gardens. A half million of them will come to Muskogee, Oklahoma for the annual Azalea Festival at Honor Heights Park this month. There, they will find 625 different varieties of azaleas, sharing more than 130 acres with redbuds, dogwoods and other blooming plants. Many will take home ideas for their own gardens. Across the U.S., more than two-thirds of households take part in lawn and garden activities. Just under a third grow flowers, and a quarter plan their own landscaping. One-in- four have vegetable gardens, and 12 percent have a decorative water garden. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
