Over 60,000 Students Served by Saba's Virtual Classroom and Collaboration Solutions Since 1996
Saba (NASDAQ:SABA), the premier provider of people-centric enterprise solutions, today announced that Stanford University'sEducation Program for Gifted Youth (EPGY) is leveraging Saba's Real-time Collaboration Suite including Saba Meeting and Saba Classroom, to create a rich, highly interactive online community for pre-collegiate students. In addition, Saba Classroom facilitates seminar-style classes that have served more than 60,000 EPGY students since 1996.
The university was able to create the Online High School (OHS) in 2005 using Saba's solutions, which currently allows 409 academically talented and motivated students in grades 7 through 12 to come together from around the world to engage in education online in Saba's Classroom. Currently, students from 41 states and 27 countries attend the Online High School.
"Saba Classroom is fundamental and enabling – without it, there would be no way that we could put the school together," said Raymond Ravaglia, executive director and co-founder, Stanford University EPGY.
Key Business Benefits
- Powerful Global Learning Community: Facilitates the core synchronous learning components for the Stanford's Online High School by bringing the live classroom experience online. Students attend real-time sessions from around the globe, participate in discussions, work on project teams and collaborate with other students, instructors, and guests. This experience enables an entire community of learners and practitioners to come together in a global forum that would otherwise be unavailable without Saba Classroom.
- Enhanced Online Learning Capabilities: Offers highly scalable integrated, voice-over-IP (VOIP) and content sharing for instant real-time virtual classes. Saba Classroom allows for richer interaction and collaboration using whiteboards, polls, and chat in vivid detail using just a webcam and internet connection. Using Saba Classroom's emoticons, students can raise their hands, laugh, and agree or disagree with the discussion. In addition, post-session evaluation is available to ensure the highest level of course comprehension.
- Interactive Workspaces: Support for student life activities including over 1,250 club meetings, assemblies, homerooms, parent-teacher conferences, and counseling so far in the 2011/2012 school year.
- Anytime/Anywhere Access: Enables students to access classroom materials on-the-go from both mobile devices and desktop, allowing students to engage actively when watching the recordings and browsing the content.
- Sharable Classroom Content: Simplifies the process of capturing, sharing and accessing valuable knowledge. Virtual classes can be recorded for later attendance and distribution, allowing students who miss a session to catch up on valuable notes, take tests and quizzes, and participate in classroom discussions.
- Easy and Intuitive User Interface: New interface, allows users to conduct classrooms activities across any platform including Mac, Linux, and Windows, as well as mobile devices. Easy-to-use features including emoticons and in-session presence indicators allow for increased engagement and interactivity for students and professors alike.

"As a leader in web conferencing and collaboration, Saba's goal is to provide customers with the most seamless and reliable online experience for learning and development," said Karen Steele, senior vice president of corporate marketing, Saba.
