Fuel Economy Experts Helen and John Taylor Arrive in Washington From Houston on Latest U.S. Driving Record Attempt

The Taylors and Shell team up to set another lowest fuel consumption record while drivingacross 48 contiguous states and teaching others to be smarter drivers.

WHAT:

As the current diesel and gasoline record-holders for fuel efficiency, the Taylors kicked off their ultimate Smarter Driving road trip in Houston this past Sunday to see how far they can go in a hybrid vehicle. They will be in Washington on Friday, April 13.

Shell and the Taylors believe that everyone can make a difference and push their boundaries of fuel efficiency following a simple "M.A.P." to Smarter Driving, which includes:

Maintenance: Perform smart maintenance before you drive
Actions: Practice smart behaviors while you're behind the wheel
Products: Purchase smart products and services at the right price without sacrificing quality

Research shows that consumers are already taking steps to save money, and most are looking for ways on how to save fuel; for more information on Smarter Driving and the Taylors, visit: shell.us/smarterdriving.

WHERE:

Washington, D.C. via studio, location, phone or Skype.

Note there are visuals to supplement a broadcast interview, including b-roll, photos, and information for graphics regarding the Taylors' various world records.

WHEN:

FRIDAY, APRIL 13, 2012

WHO:

Helen and John Taylor

EDITOR NOTE:
In August 2011, the Taylors completed their first Smarter Driving road trip which was a 23-day, 48 contiguous U.S. state tour averaging an astounding 64.42 miles per gallon in an unmodified, non-hybrid gasoline vehicle by using tips from the Shell Smarter Driving program and Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines exclusively along their route. The Taylors achieved more than 50 percent greater fuel efficiency than the Environmental Protection Agency's estimated highway fuel economy for the vehicle they drove, and they surpassed the minimum requirement of 54.5 mpg announced by the government for passenger vehicles to achieve by 2025.
