ICSA Labs Tests Stonesoft Firewall Appliance for High Availability and IPv6 Interoperability
Stonesoft, an innovative provider of integrated network security and business continuity solutions, today announced that its next generation firewall solution has met the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology's USGv6 evaluation requirements.
In addition, Stonesoft passed two certification tests – the Network Firewall IPv6 and High Availability modules – meeting the rigorous certifications standards set forth by ICSA Labs. ICSA Labs is an accredited testing partner and co-developer of the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology USGv6 testing program, ensuring that the IPv6 technical standards and interoperability evaluation requirements are met.
With IPv4 addresses now exhausted, network security products are under increased pressure to be compliant with IPv6-enabled network technologies. The USGv6 testing program certifies hosts, routers, switches and security products for U.S. government acquisition if agencies require or request IPv6 technology.
"As government networks evolve, IPv6 interoperability is becoming increasingly important. This evaluation demonstrates that Stonesoft's firewall appliance is technically capable of providing the same high standard of security to both IPv4 and IPv6-enabled networks in the public sector," said Brian Monkman, technology programs manager, ICSA Labs.
Stonesoft is one of the few firewall vendors to receive USGv6 certification. Matt McKinley, U.S. director of product development comments: "The future of network technology is deeply tied to IPv6. Stonesoft has already taken the technical steps needed to provide seamless, military-grade protection for IPv6 networks. This evaluation demonstrates that we're ready to secure any network, whether IPv4, IPv6 or networks in transition."
Although the test was conducted on the Stonesoft FW-310 appliance, all Stonesoft appliances – physical and virtual – are equally capable of IPv6 functionality as they run the same security engine code base.
By passing ICSA's Network Firewall certification modules (IPv6 and high availability), this test confirms that the Stonesoft next generation firewall solution performs stateful failover of established firewall sessions in various network and firewall outage scenarios within a defined time limit and without introducing security vulnerabilities. The firewall also demonstrates the ability to log events related to the failover as well as provide required administrative functions. Stonesoft is one of the only network security vendors today that can maintain network availability and security in the event of a network outage.
