This is the company's 11th project with the University
Florida Atlantic University selectedBalfour Beatty Construction to build the school's new freshman student housing project on their main campus in Boca Raton, Florida.
The $31 million project will provide an additional 600 beds plus a new dining facility for FAU's growing student population.
"We are just thrilled and pleased to continue our journey with the University as their trusted advisor and building partner – an honor we seek to earn and maintain," said Clinton Glass, Balfour Beatty Construction senior vice president.
For this fast-track project using a Construction Manager at Risk delivery method, Balfour Beatty Construction teamed up with Cummings Construction. To date, the joint venture has completed six projects together.
The two most recent were at Florida Atlantic University: their new 30,000-seat football stadium which opened in October 2011, coupled with a major infrastructure project – a four-lane divided roadway which completes the University's master plan to provide a third, primary connection to and from the campus.
The design team is led by PGAL Architects in association with SchenkelShultz.
The seven-story design is already underway and will be completed this summer. Accordingly, construction will begin in June, and will complete next summer; just in time for the arrival of the Class of 2017.
Balfour Beatty Construction's work at Florida Atlantic University dates back more than a decade.
The company has completed a total of 10 projects at Florida Atlantic University, including the two mentioned above, as well as the 1,200-bed Innovation Village Apartments, the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (HBOI) marine wet-lab research facility and the Charles E. Schmidt Biomedical Science Center.
