Kentz Limitada, the Mozambique operating unit of Kentz Engineers and Constructors, is delighted to announce the signing of a long-term training agreement with the Mozambique Ministry of Labour. The agreement commits Kentz to train 500 local employees over a five year period in skills including welding, pipefitting, electrical, scaffolding, crane and machine operations. Certified training will be undertaken in a newly refurbished facility in the Tete province, as well as other training facilities associated with Kentz's projects throughout Mozambique.
The agreement was signed in Tete by Madam Elsa Barca, Director for Labour, Tete Province and senior executives of Kentz. The Director expressed her appreciation to Kentz for its commitment to the training of local labour, which will result in tangible benefits reaching all levels of the community. Mr. Vaquino, the Province Secretary for the Government, witnessed the signing ceremony and delivered an address on behalf of Governor of Tete Province.
Martin Walsh, Regional Development Director for the African Region commented: "Kentz has been working in sub-Saharan Africa for over 30 years and has a strong commitment to the training and development of its employees. We are delighted to be working with the Mozambican Labour Department and the Tete provincial authorities to redress the local skills shortage through this long term training agreement."
Kentz has been active in Mozambique for 17 years on major projects such as Mozal Aluminum, the Kenmare Resources Moma Sands and Vale's Moatize Coal project in Tete province. The expected continued growth in the mining industry coupled with the development of LNG facilities in Mozambique, this training agreement will help reduce the reliance on foreign labour in the years to come.
