Informa Investment Solutions, a subsidiary of Informa plc (LSE: INF) today announces the first quarter 2012 PSN Top Guns rankings. What a way to start the year! Approximately 98% of the products in PSN experienced a positive return in first quarter 2012. Of course, some products performed better than others, but for this most recent quarter, competition was stiff. The top producing products have achieved PSN Top Gun status.
This quarter it pays to be flexible. The top three US Equity products for first quarter 2012 were All Cap products, with an element of versatility built into the investment process and philosophy. Old West Investment, Sands Capital and VTL Associates achieved stunning results because they had the ability to invest in smaller cap stocks when they were doing well in January and switch to larger cap stocks when they took the lead in February and March.
After a somewhat lackluster 2011, Emerging Markets Equity is back. Zesiger, Quantitative Management and Aberdeen Asset are the top three in the category all producing over 20% for the quarter. Not only are returns back for Emerging Markets, asset flows are still strong with over $12 billion placed this quarter, according to the soon-to-be-released PSN Flows Report.
US High Yield remains a strong category in both flows and returns. Advisors Assets, PENN Capital, Reams, Manulife, AEGON and DDJ Capital all achieved over a 10% return for the quarter. High Yield had both strong positive flows in first quarter 2012 and fourth quarter 2011.
