Reflects Kurion's Commitment to Japan's Recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake
Kurion, Inc., an innovator in nuclear waste management, announced that Mr. Yohei Iwasaki joined the company as its Country Manager for Japan. Mr. Iwasaki will lead Kurion's business strategy in Japan following the company's recent announcement of its acquisition of the GeoMelt® technologies. That purchase included a Japanese licensee, ISV Japan Ltd., which has safely used the GeoMelt® in-container vitrification technology to successfully treat and stabilize hazardous wastes in Japan since 2003.

Mr. Iwasaki will be supported by Kurion's Kaizen Manager, Mr. Hirofumi Ebi, who has been an important part of the Kurion team since the commissioning of its isotope removal processing system a year ago at the tsunami-damaged Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant. Tokyo-based Mr. Ebi is well-regarded by Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) and its contractors, with whom Kurion has the honor of working.
"We are excited about bringing Mr. Iwasaki aboard. He brings strong academic credentials and business achievements, both here and in Japan," said Kurion Founder and CEO John Raymont. "His hiring reaffirms our commitment to help TEPCO, the Fukushima Prefecture and Japan recover from the tragedy of the Great East Japan Earthquake."
"Kurion's technology portfolio offers a full range of flexible, robust solutions to help address the variety of waste challenges in Japan," said Mr. Iwasaki. "Our two in-container vitrification technologies, ICV™ and MVS®, are able to stabilize contaminated debris and waste previously removed from the water at the plant. Additionally, the unique in-situ (in-ground) GeoMelt® vitrification process could help manage contaminated soils. Finally, our Ion Specific Media for isotopes remain an effective tool to clean contaminated water at the site."
Mr. Iwasaki earned Master of Business Administration and Master of Sciences degrees from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Law degree from University of Tokyo. He practiced law as an attorney in Japan for three years at Nishimura & Asahi and the Uchida & Samejima Law Firm. Most recently, he was co-founder, Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Strategy Officer of mOasis, a venture-capital backed startup developing technology to improve productivity of agricultural land with its proprietary water storage material.
