OSHAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/01/12 -- October was a strong month for GM compact cars with sales up 44 per cent, led by the Chevrolet Cruze, GM's best-selling passenger car with sales up by 22 per cent compared to the previous year. Sales in the mini/small car segment were also up 3 per cent and compact SUV/MPV sales were up with a 32 per cent increase for the month. Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac delivered 18,651 vehicles in October 2012.
"Canadians increasingly appreciate the quality of the new family of smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles offered by GM," said Marc Comeau, vice-president of sales, service and marketing at GM of Canada. "Earlier this week, GM produced our one millionth compact crossover and sales of these vehicles continue to be strong with the GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Orlando and Equinox seeing double digit increases for the month."
Sales of the GMC Terrain were up 29 per cent and the Chevrolet Orlando and Equinox showed a combined 37 per cent increase.
October 2012 Key Facts and Brand Results
-- Chevrolet Volt sales were up 106 per cent for the month
-- Total Buick sales were up 27 per cent for the month and 15 per cent for
the calendar year led by strong sales of the Verano, Buick's compact
luxury sedan
-- GMC Acadia sales were up 17 per cent for the month
-- Cadillac car sales were up 47 per cent for the month, led by sales of
the all-new Cadillac ATS, recently named the Best New Luxury Car by the
Automotive Journalists' Association of Canada, and the all-new Canadian-
built Cadillac XTS
Total GM sales were down 4.6 per cent compared to last October.
