American Airlines Updates Customers On Flight Operations In Mid-Atlantic And Northeast

FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Due to severe weather from Hurricane Sandy, American Airlines and American Eagle are suspending operations at a number of airports in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions of the United States from 10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28 until approximately midday Wednesday, Oct. 31. It is also possible that the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy may force some additional delays and cancellations of scheduled flights beyond Wednesday. Options for our Customers

Customers whose tickets were issued no later than Oct. 26 and are ticketed for travel Oct. 28 through Oct. 31 on American Airlines, American Eagle or AmericanConnection flights to, from or through the airports listed below may change flights without penalty and may have the ticket-reissue charge waived for one ticket change.

To change travel dates, customers may contact American Reservations at 1-800-433-7300 within the U.S. or Canada. Customers calling from outside the U.S. or Canada are encouraged to check American's Worldwide Reservations Numbers page on AA.com. American has increased its reservations staff over the next few days to help with the expected increase in call volume. As a result, hold times may be longer than usual.

Operational Impact

American Airlines and American Eagle are suspending operations from 10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28 until midday Wednesday, Oct. 31 at nine airports in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast due to Hurricane Sandy - DCA, IAD, BWI, ORF, PHL, EWR, JFK, LGA and BDL. American and Eagle canceled 140 flights to and from these airports on Oct. 28, and an additional 1,431 flights from Oct. 29 through Oct. 31. Operations may resume in some cities on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
