Perfect World's Game Wins Authoritative International Annual Award

- Torchlight II rated as the best PC RPG of the year by IGN

BEIJING, Dec. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Torchlight II, an online game developed by Runic Games, a firm majority owned by Chinese game developer Perfect World, was awarded "Best Role Playing Game (RPG) of 2012" during the recent "Best PC Game of 2012", a game rating event hosted by authoritative American game media company IGN.

It is the first time that a Chinese company has seen one of its games make the breakthrough and obtain an internationally recognized authoritative game award.

In the last few days of 2012, many leading American game media firms are pushed out their best-of-the-year game lists, highlighting the best of what the year had to produce. These authoritative and unbiased awards are great tributes to game products and developers.

During the "Best RPG of 2012" selection process, IGN commented on its pick of Torchlight II, "Every existing element of Torchlight II is great. It's just a highly interesting product, with the surprising combination of numerous monsters, excellent skill design and random elements is an almost perfect formula, and the rewards just keep on coming until the final battle is over. Each upgrade, skill upgrade and equipment replacement are, each in of themselves, addictive, and a player has to play for a long time before acquiring any real power. We can say that Torchlight II is one of the best MF ARPGs!"

Massively, another world renowned online game information website, further added: "Torchlight II should win a place in every possible 'best of' list, as it is really a remarkable game."

Commenting on Torchlight II's many "best of" picks, Runic Games' parent Perfect World said, "Torchlight II showcases outstanding skill design and comes with an abundance of game content. It is, in every way, an ARPG that can create a perfect experience for the player. Torchlight II was a truly pleasant surprise for us in 2012, and was a major contributor to Perfect World's good earnings in the third quarter of 2012. We have high hopes for Torchlight II, and plan to beef up promotions for the product in more markets. We hope that Torchlight II can become a real force in Perfect World's globalization efforts."

China's online gaming companies moved into the international arena mainly through product authorization and by setting up their own branches and operating independently in each market it entered. Perfect World, however, created a whole new model based on "global research and development and operation", which integrates global game resources including industrial design, production, operation and IP through acquiring game companies in each market, and expanding into these markets through globalization of its R&D. The company localizes R&D through its overseas branches, and then promotes products around the world.

Perfect World said that the success of Torchlight II demonstrates the excellence of product that can be created and developed under this model. Torchlight II follows on the success of Torchlight, another popular masterful creation, both researched and developed by Perfect World's majority-owned American subsidiary.

The English-language version of Torchlight II was formally launched on September 20, 2012, and is available for download on the Steam platform. The version has been well received since its launch, and the pricing of US$19.99 has made Torchlight II an irresistible game worth well more than what one pays for it.
