ESET Launches ESET Security for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013

LAS VEGAS, May 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --ESET®, the global leader in proactive digital protection with a 25-year track record of award-winning technology, today announced the release of ESET Security for Microsoft SharePoint Server®. The launch makes ESET the first and only antivirus vendor currently providing protection to users of the new Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013®. Companies of all sizes are now empowered with protection for their on-premises SharePoint servers when Microsoft retires the Forefront' products in 2015.

"Technology changes. In order to compete and achieve, businesses need to protect their latest software, legacy applications and even discontinued solutions," said Andrew Lee, CEO, ESET North America. "ESET works hard to make certain that companies have the confidence to move forward without the distraction and resource drain of security gaps. ESET Security for Microsoft SharePoint Server, provides the most comprehensive, efficient security available to keep our customers working hard for their customers."

Unlike current Forefront products, businesses using ESET Security for Microsoft SharePoint Server, get real-time protection of the entire server operating and file system. They are protected from popular threat vectors including those aimed at file system entry, drive-by downloads, or system exploits and vulnerabilities. In addition, ESET technology uses five times less memory and eight times less disk space than Forefront, minimizing its system footprint.

Without trusted antivirus protection, a single end-user could mistakenly upload compromised files to the SharePoint Server and infect the entire database. However, effective protection of a SharePoint database not only requires antivirus technology to scan for malware, but should also provide tools to support IT policies preventing uploads of inappropriate files to the database or unauthorized downloads of sensitive content that should only be accessed from the database. ESET Security for Microsoft SharePoint Server not only scans files for malware, but also applies rules-based filtering to scan actual content and validate it by real-file type.

Now available as a release candidate version, and scheduled for general availability early this summer, ESET Security for Microsoft SharePoint Server, is already being used in a production environment by the Czech Republic Postal Service to support thousands of connected users.

ESET will be offering demonstrations of the new product at the Interop 2013 show, May 7-9 in Las Vegas, at booth #1219.
