WHAT: On this third anniversary week of the Syrian civil war, a group of humanitarian organizations are coming together to ensure that the people of Syria do not lose another year to bloodshed and suffering. The groups will be participating in a U.S. Senate briefing on Thursday, March 13, to shine a light on Syria's humanitarian crisis, which finds more than 9.3 million people -- half of whom are children -- in need of assistance, with 6.5 million of those people displaced inside Syria, and 2.5 million finding themselves as refugees outside their native country.
Panelists at the Senate briefing will provide information on the latest developments from the ground, including the scale of humanitarian need, and challenges and successes in humanitarian response. They will also be assessing the impact of the recent UN Security Council Resolution on humanitarian aid, and providing recommendations about how Congress can support the Syrian people.
