Santander To Open New Branches In Philadelphia

BOSTON, April 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Santander Bank, N.A. announced today that it will open three new branches in Philadelphia to support growth in the region.

Expansion of the branch network is part of a $200 million investment program in infrastructure to enhance customer experience, which Santander, one of the largest banks in the United States by deposits, announced last October.

"While online and mobile banking use continues to grow, there's no substitute for consumers and small business owners meeting face-to-face with an experienced banker who understands their financial needs," said Jonathan Roberts, Santander region president for Southeastern Pennsylvania, Central New Jersey and Delaware. "We intend to grow in Philadelphia and our plans to open three branches reflect our commitment to the region's potential."

Santander's University City branch will be located at 106 South 38th Street at the corner of Chestnut Street. Construction is currently underway. The full-service branch will open in July and will include a dedicated space for college students as well as specialized bankers who are experienced in serving their financial needs.

A full-service branch is also under construction at 1616 Walnut Street and is slated to open in June. Located in a 1930's era building in Rittenhouse Square, Santander worked with the Philadelphia Historical Commission to ensure the branch design was in keeping with its prominent and historically significant location.

In addition to the new Center City branches, Santander's Llanerch branch was relocated from 401 West Chester Pike to 116 West Township Line Road in Havertown and is part of the new Quarry Center shopping complex.

A Family Fun Day will be held on Saturday, May 3, from 12:30 - 2:30 PM to introduce the new, expanded space to local families and will include an appearance by former Eagles wide receiver Harold Carmichael from 1:15 - 2:15 PM, along with magicians, clowns and crafts. The new branch will be unveiled to the business community during an opening ceremony with Santander executives and the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, May 29, from 8:00 - 10:00 AM.
