No Tent, No Problem: 6 City Music Festivals to Attend This Summer

DALLAS, May 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --Music festivals and camping often go hand-in-hand, but spending a weekend in a muddy field isn't for everyone. Fortunately, with more than 100 U.S. music festivals happening between June and September, there are plenty of events taking place in the heart of some of the nation's most popular destinations. Hotels.com® has partnered with Music Festival Junkies to select some of the best music festivals for travelers to attend this summer based on confirmed musical acts from promoters such as Founders Entertainment, Another Planet Entertainment, One Reel, Goldenvoice and Milwaukee World Festival, Inc.

Hotels.com and Music Festival Junkies pick the best summer concerts for travelers in top U.S. cities

1. Outside Lands - August 8-10, 2014 in San Francisco
With a classic venue like Golden Gate Park and the always quirky city of San Francisco right outside the gates, Outside Lands remains a solid bet for a weekend summer getaway.

Music Festival Junkie Lineup Sampler: Kanye West, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Killers, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Arctic Monkeys, Tiesto, Death Cab For Cutie and The Flaming Lips.

2. The Governor's Ball - June 6-8, 2014 in New York City
Watching a glorious sunset combined with the backdrop of New York City while listening to an eclectic lineup is just one of the perks to the annual Governor's Ball held on an island in the Hudson River.

Music Festival Junkie Lineup Sampler: Outkast, Jack White, Vampire Weekend, The Strokes, Phoenix, Skrillex, Foster the People, TV on the Radio and Interpol.

3. Bumbershoot - August 30-September 1, 2014 in Seattle
There are music festivals and then there is Bumbershoot. Taking place at the Seattle Center on Labor Day Weekend since 1971, the veteran festival prides itself on featuring not just a wide range of music but film, theater, visual arts, comedy and much more.

Music Festival Junkie Lineup Sampler: Elvis Costello, The Afghan Whigs, The Replacements, Neon Trees, Wu-Tang Clan, The Head and the Heart, J. Cole and Foster The People.

4. FYF Fest - August 23-24, 2014 in Los Angeles
The downtown park that usually hosts FYF Fest is under construction this year which means a temporary move to the LA sports arena, but don't expect the change of venue to impact the always stellar curated list of artists for this festival.

Music Festival Junkie Lineup Sampler: The Strokes, Phoenix, Interpol, Haim, Grimes, Built to Spill, Future Islands, Death Grips, Slowdive, Flying Lotus and Little Dragon.

5. North Coast Festival - August 29-31, 2014 in Chicago
There's no shortage of music festivals in Chicago and for the last five years the North Coast Festival in Union Park has been building up a reputation as the final, end-all party of the summer, delivering a mix of electronic, hip-hop and everything in between.

Music Festival Junkie Lineup Sampler: Bassnectar, Kid Kudi, STS9, Snoop Dogg, Alesso, Dada Life, Griz, Nicky Romero, Dr. Dog and Slightly Stoopid.

6. Summerfest - June 25-29 and July 1-6, 2014 in Milwaukee
Officially billed in the Guinness Book of World Records as "The World's Largest Music Festival," this lakeside festival lasts for a staggering 11-day stretch and entertains nearly a million fans.

Music Festival Junkie Lineup Sampler: New Order, Nas, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Rise Against, Arctic Monkeys, Ludacris, Five Finger Death Punch, The Fray, Neon Trees and Melissa Etheridge.
