THE SOLAR PHOENIX: New Book Outlines How America Can Manufacture Solar Success

SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --The SOLAR PHOENIX: How America Can Rise from the Ashes of Solyndra to World Leadership in Solar 2.0, a new book by Silicon Valley technology pioneer and solar entrepreneur Brad Mattson, offers a detailed roadmap of how solar will lead us to the new energy economy and outlines how the United States can beat manufacturing juggernauts like China by using advanced solar manufacturing technology developed here in the United States.

The book explains that:

  • Solar is the biggest energy story of this century, with major global impact on: economy, health, climate, security and poverty.
  • The tipping point for solar has arrived, igniting what will be a multi-decade growth explosion that takes us from 100GW to 15,000GW of solar capacity.
  • America can be a solar superpower and dominate Solar 2.0, manufacturing at a lower cost and higher quality than China.

What others are saying about Brad Mattson and The Solar Phoenix:

"I love this book. Everyone should understand the need for distributed generation and that solar is the key to its happening. For energy security and energy independence, we really have no choice. It is only a matter of time before everyone gets it. Brad gets it."

- R. James Woolsey, former CIA director

"Solar Phoenix not only makes the case for solar, but outlines a path to the deployment at scale. This is not just a 'blue sky, tree-hugging' story, but a detailed roadmap for success, connecting the dots on how America, or any country, can create climate wealth."

- Jigar Shah, Solar & Climate Expert

"Brad's chapter 'Investment Roadmap' provides a thoughtful and compelling argument about how, when and where to invest in solar. Solyndra made headlines when it failed, but the headline for solar when all is said and done will be a story of investors doing very well by doing good. As the book clearly explains, The Solar Phoenix is set to rise."

- Nancy Pfund, DBL Investors, Investors in Tesla & SolarCity

About Brad Mattson:
Born in Massachusetts, but raised in California, Brad Mattson is a renowned entrepreneur in the semiconductor industry. He began his career at Applied Materials and later founded and scaled both Novellus and Mattson Technology, becoming the only entrepreneur to launch two publicly-traded semiconductor equipment firms.

Before joining Siva Power in 2011, Brad was a partner for VantagePoint Capital Partners, where he focused on renewable energy and cleantech - in particular, solar. Coupling his renewable energy experience with his success in bringing new technology to scale, Brad became Chief Executive Officer of Siva Power, with the goal of making CIGS thin film technology the foundation of solar manufacturing in the United States.

He enjoys spending time with his family in Silicon Valley, and besides technology loves football, travel, and gold prospecting.
