PALATINE, Ill., July 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Three finalists have been selected to participate in Weber's Big Burger Battle Championship taking place at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally-one of the world's largest motorcycle events attended annually by hundreds of thousands of people.
It was the Nacho Average Burger by Amy Meiers, the 870 Broadway Burger by Dafna Mizrahi, and a Sweet and Spicy Salut Burger by Ramon Douglas that piqued the attention of Jamie Purviance, author of the new Weber's Big Book of Burgers. Purviance is a New York Times Best Selling cookbook author, a James Beard Award Nominee, and has been a judge at top barbecue competitions across the country, including Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest and the Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational Barbecue Competition.
"I look for that unique ingredient, or that bit of creativity that makes a recipe stand out from the pack," said Jamie. "My latest cookbook is all about burgers-and how far we can take them. It was fun and tasty testing these recipes-I thought we had tried them all, but there is really no end to what defines a burger today."
Finalists Amy Meiers, 31, from Santa Rosa, California, Ramon Douglas, 37, from Altadena, California, and Dafna Mizrahi, 23, from New York, NY will face off against each other on August 3. The competition begins at 11 a.m. and will take place at 3rd and Lazelle Street. Contestants will have 30 minutes to assemble and grill their burgers on a Weber Genesis gas grill. Contestants will be judged on taste, texture and appearance.

The grand prize package includes a trophy, along with more than $5,000 in prizes, including a top-of-the line Weber Summit S-670 gas grill, grilling accessories, the new Weber's Big Book of Burgers, and a $500 Harley-Davidson' gift card.The three finalists will receive all-expense paid trips to the 74th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally to compete in the Big Burger Battle.
As Harley-Davidson's Official Grill Partner for 2014, Weber Grills will stage the Big Burger Battle Championship during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The new Weber Mobile Grill Academy will also be on site to allow consumers a first-hand look at Weber's grills and accessories.
