Allscripts receives innovation award from Intel

CHICAGO, July 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Allscripts has received an Intel Innovation Award for the development of Allscripts Wand', powered by Windows-one of the first comprehensive mobile electronic health records (EHR) developed on the Windows 8.1 platform.

Allscripts Wand, powered by Windows (Wand for Windows) is designed to re-envision how clinicians interact with EHRs. With a new navigation and interaction model, Wand for Windows improves the touch user interface experience for simpler data entry and easier and faster navigation of the patient information.

Wand for Windows is a highly flexible mobile solution that gives users a wide variety of options. It enables choice by giving clinicians the ability to use legacy EHRs and new EHRs simultaneously on the same device. And, in addition to the choice of devices, Wand for Windows also provides choice of navigation by touch, stylus or mouse.

"Allscripts' Chief Innovation Officer Stanley Crane and Allscripts are truly deserving of this Intel Innovation Award," said Mark Blatt, M.D., Worldwide Medical Director for Intel. "Wand for Windows is a touch-enabled mobile app for Windows 8.1 and is designed to improve efficiency and enhance the patient experience."

Resurgens Orthopaedics, the largest orthopaedic medical group in Georgia collaborated with Allscripts on a proof of concept, providing critical feedback with real-world testing and verification of the Wand for Windows solution on the Windows 8.1 platform. Resurgens physicians and clinical staff incorporated the app running on Hewlett-Packard (HP) tablets with the Intel® Core® i5 processor into their workflows.

"Our practice and our patients both benefit from the Windows 8.1 solution as it overcomes previous issues we've encountered before with other products," said Bradley Dick, Chief Information Officer, Resurgens Orthopaedics. "We are now in the process of making the Windows 8.1 EHR app an option for physicians and medical staff," he added.

Stanley Crane added, "Wand for Windows, built on the Windows 8.1 platform, is the result of a close collaboration between Allscripts, Intel, Microsoft and Booz Allen Hamilton. Wand for Windows is a central part of our strategy to improve outcomes with innovative mobile solutions and platforms. We appreciate the collaboration with all these great companies. We especially want to thank Intel for honoring Allscripts with the Intel Innovation Award."

Allscripts Wand for Windows continues to be tested by the Allscripts Innovation team and is available for download on the Apps for Microsoft store and will also be demonstrated at the Allscripts Client Experience (ACE) annual user conference August 12-14 in Chicago, Ill.
