Code of Support Foundation, Green Living Technologies International and the Home Depot to Create the First "Living Wall of Honor" Memorial for Post 9/11 Military Veterans

ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Code of Support Foundation (COSF), Green Living Technologies International (GLTI) and The Home Depot announced the creation of a "Living Wall of Honor" for post 9/11 Military Veterans. The unprecedented service project is a call to action that will be launched on COSF's annual Spirit of '45 Day event at 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 10 at the World War II Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The Spirit of '45 Day event is open to the public and will bring together members of the military and civilian communities to participate in constructing a living memorial representing the foundation's bridge home for post 9/11 veterans and their families.

"The Living Wall of Honor will be the only organic memorial to our nation's fallen heroes over the past 13 years of war, as well as a living tribute to this current 'greatest generation,'" says Major General (Ret) Alan Salisbury, COSF founder and CEO. "The Living Wall of Honor, through the Code of Support Foundation's Spirit of '45 Day event, provides an opportunity for every American to recognize today's military service members and their sacrifice."

Designed by GLTI, The Living Wall of Honor's custom structure will be comprised of more than 1,000 multi-colored petunias and marigolds, provided by The Home Depot Foundation. The wall is expected, with the help of Team Depot and other volunteers, to take approximately one hour to assemble at the WWII Memorial site.

"Green Living Technologies International is honored to be a partner in the Spirit of '45 Day Living Wall of Honor service project," says Joan Stadler, VP of Business Development. "This modern day, victory garden represents our post-9/11 warriors and the communities here at home that support them."

In 2010, Congress unanimously passed Concurrent Resolution 226calling for a national "Spirit of '45 Day" to be observed on the second Sunday in August to celebrate the end of World War II and the spirit of service, shared sacrifice and national unity that made victory possible. This year's observance along with the service project features a program beginning at 10:30 a.m. Speakers include the HON Rob Gordon, president of Be The Change, a "Rosie the Riveter" from WWII, and post 9/11 veterans. Musical performances will be provided by the West Point Alumni Glee Club.

Upon completion, the Living Wall of Honor will be relocated to the Women In Military Service For America Memorial Foundation at Arlington National Cemetery where it will remain through Sept. 11, 2014.

The Code of Support Foundation (COSF) was established in 2010 by MG (Ret) Alan B. Salisbury with the mission to engage and leverage the full spectrum of the nation's resources for service members, veterans and their families to receive the support they need and have earned through their service and sacrifice. www.codeofsupport.org
