CNN's Josh Rubin and Gartner Inc.'s Allen Weiner Join the Daily Dot

AUSTIN, July 31, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --The Daily Dot, the world's most comprehensive source for original Internet-community news, is thrilled to announce Josh Rubin, formerly of CNN, and Allen Weiner, formerly of Gartner, as the newest additions to its editorial team.

Nicholas White, Daily Dot editor-in-chief and CEO: "Josh and Allen both have a deep and expert knowledge of the media landscape today and how it is changing. They also have a proven ability and track record of innovation and thinking fresh about how to most effectively inform and serve readers in the new landscape of the Internet."

An award-winning journalist with more than 15 years of experience in national media, Rubin joins the Daily Dot as Executive Producer and Managing Director of Video, bringing his experience producing thousands of hours of television and Web content to the Daily Dot's influential digital native audience. Rubin was formerly lead producer for CNN's Election Express Bus, traveling more than 100,000 miles to cover everything from presidential campaigns to cultural events like Comic-Con. He's the recipient of multiple awards, including a Peabody and an Emmy nomination.

"The Daily Dot aspires to be all the things that modern media isn't," says Rubin. "In an age of shrinking newsrooms they're growing their editorial team. While others focus on listicles and content aggregation the Dot focuses on original reporting. The Internet provides journalists with a window into the beating heart of humanity, so I'm joining The Daily Dot because they cover Internet news with journalistic integrity and explore trends without mindlessly following them."

Allen Weiner, a pioneer in the digital media world, joins the Daily Dot as Editor at Large, covering a number of areas, most notably the burgeoning realm of made-for-the-Web entertainment, education, and technology. Weiner has worked as a reporter, columnist, publisher, analyst, and entrepreneur covering broadcasting trends, video disruption, and print/digital businesses, as well as charting a vision for the future of the media industry. For 15 of the last 20 years, Allen worked for Gartner, Inc., as a research VP in the company's Media Industry Advisory group. During his time as an analyst, Allen has been a contributing writer to the Guardian, Variety, Forbes, and other leading industry publications. Prior to joining Gartner, Allen was general manager of digital media at the San Francisco Newspaper Agency and led the team that founded sfgate.com in 1994.
