PHOENIX, AZ -- (Marketwired) -- 09/12/14 -- Homeless pets in the Capital Region will have a better chance finding a loving home thanks to a partnership between PetSmart Charities and the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. The two have teamed up with support from PetSmart® to open a pet adoption center inside the PetSmart store at 609 Troy Schenectady Road in Latham, NY. Since the Everyday Adoption Center's soft opening on August 18, 46 pets have already found forever homes.
Ollie's Story
Ollie, a four-month-old grey tiger, was the lucky first cat to be adopted on opening day. The Dow family stopped in the new adoption center right near their home and fell in love. Ollie had been living the life of a stray kitten on the streets of Watervliet. He was rescued and brought to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society on August 9. Nine days later, this sweet, playful kitten found his new forever home with Jennifer Dow and family. The Dow family's daughter, Sarah (pictured), has already created a great bond with Ollie.
"Our partnership with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society allows us to promote pet adoptions and reduce pet homelessness in the local community," said Jan Wilkins, executive director, PetSmart Charities. "We are thrilled to bring this Everyday Adoption Center model to the Capital Region in New York State; each of these adoption centers allows us to save, on average, more than 1,000 pets every year."
"The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society is proud to partner with PetSmart Charities. The Everyday Adoption Center will provide us the opportunity to bring pets to a whole new audience in our community," said Brad Shear, executive director of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. "We are excited about this wonderful opportunity to find additional homes for the homeless dogs and cats in our care."
