Cargotec Corporation: Hiab opens the world's most modern factory for load handling equipment in Poland

CARGOTEC CORPORATION, PRESS RELEASE, 23 SEPTEMBER 2014 AT 9.00 AM (EEST)

Hiab, part of Cargotec, celebrates today the official opening of its new state-of-the-art multi-assembly unit (MAU) in Stargard Szczecinski, Poland. The development at Stargard further demonstrates Hiab's commitment to remaining the leading global provider of load handling equipment through its continuous investment in sustainable load handling technology.

In addition to the official opening ceremony, Hiab introduces a revolutionary anti-corrosion treatment process, called nDuranceTM that is being used in the new MAU Stargard.

nDuranceTM is a technologically advanced and environmentally sound pre-treatment and paint process based on nanotechnology and e-coating. It offers a unique three-layer protection against corrosion and harsh working environments. The process is 100 percent phosphate-free, it does not use any heavy metals and leaves basically no waste - resulting in great savings on energy and water. With nDuranceTM Hiab can provide customers with the industry's best hi-tech protection for their equipment.

The opening ceremony coincides with Hiab celebrating its 70th anniversary. Seven decades ago, Swedish ski manufacturer Eric Sundin was struggling to get the heavy timber he needed from the woods into his ski factory. The Hiab Method he developed not only solved his challenge, but also sparked a revolution in load handling that continues to this day.

Hiab's President Roland Sundén, says: "It's particularly pleasing that our Stargard multi-assembly unit has become fully operational in this, our 70th anniversary year. It shows how Hiab has developed from an industrial pioneer into the leading global provider of on-road load handling equipment. I would like to congratulate the Hiab team in Poland for ensuring that our customers continue to benefit from the very best equipment solutions."

Mika Selänne, Hiab's Vice President, Supply states: "Europe is an important market for Hiab and this investment demonstrates our continued commitment to and confidence in this market. Stargard is an ideal location that offers excellent logistics that will bring us close to our existing as well as future customers."

Hiab has a global network of nine multi-assembly units around the world. All of them use the Hiab Production System, which is based on the lean philosophy and continuous improvement. By using the same processes, systems and tools we secure consistent Hiab quality deliveries.

"All our products are 'Made by Hiab'. The processes, components, build quality and testing are consistently undertaken to the same method in all our assembly facilities worldwide. Our product development is driven by meeting customer needs and it's critical that we deliver consistent product quality, value, performance and safety wherever our customers are based around the globe," Mika Selänne concludes.
