VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 12/18/14 -- Marijuana licensed producers in Canada have until January 12th, 2015 to comply with advertising prohibitions or face enforcement by Health Canada. Warning letters were issued on November 25th, 2014 to twenty Canadian marijuana producers.
Pamela McColl, Canadian publisher of the pipe-free edition of the holiday poem - T'was the Night Before Christmas (2012), supports a ban on advertising of tobacco and marijuana products. McColl is a director of SAM Canada - a national council opposed to the legalization of marijuana and is also a director of the Campaign for Justice On Tobacco Fraud chaired by Garfield Mahood OC.
"It has been discouraging to see the advertising rules being broken so soon after the new federal marijuana licensee program launched on April 1, 2014. We have failed miserably with legal tobacco and we stand to repeat this mistake if we unleash a recreational commercialized marijuana industry in Canada," says McColl.
This week a marijuana dispensary in San Pedro, California had to destroy advertising that depicted a pot-smoking Santa Claus. It was dismantled after an angry crowd demanded action.
