MINNEAPOLIS, MN--(Marketwired - October 20, 2015) - KARE 11, a TEGNA Media station in Minneapolis, Minn., in partnership with C.H. Robinson, has selected Minneapolis Recreation Development as its partner for their 2015 USA TODAY Make A Difference Day project. Make A Difference Day is the nation's largest single-day of community service, bringing together millions of Americans with a common mission -- to improve the lives of others through volunteerism. This year, Make A Difference Day will take place on Saturday, October 24th.
Employees from KARE 11 and their families will join C.H. Robinson employees and community volunteers at C.H. Robinson's headquarters in Eden Prairie, Minn. Volunteers will be making sandwiches, urban survival kits and nutrition kits. Sandwiches and kits will be distributed by Minneapolis Recreation Development, a non-profit organization that serves the homeless community, vulnerable individuals, disadvantaged youth and their families in the Twin Cities.
"It is a privilege to serve our community," said John Remes, President and General Manager. "At KARE 11 we have a long history of using the power of our medium to improve the lives of our fellow citizens. Make A Difference Day is a great example of this privilege and we are proud to partner with C.H. Robinson to make a real difference."
The TEGNA Foundation, supported by TEGNA Inc. (NYSE: TGNA), will contribute $170,000 in community grants for Make A Difference Day projects across the country. TEGNA is a proud sponsor of Make A Difference Day in collaboration with USA TODAY/Gannett, Points of Light and Newman's Own. The event was created in 1992 and has since helped millions of Americans.
Organizers of Make A Difference Day projects are encouraged to register at makeadifferenceday.com. By registering, projects become eligible to win a national award and a $10,000 donation from Newman's Own. In addition, one previous national honoree will receive the All-Star Award and a $10,000 donation from both the TEGNA Foundation and the Gannett Foundation for demonstrating continued excellence on Make A Difference Day.
