Merger of Potash Corp. and Agrium Inc. to Benefit the Fertilizer Industry

HYDERABAD, India, September 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --

Mordor Intelligence announces the release of their report on the global fertilizer market. The report titled, "Global Fertilizers Market - By Type, Application and Geography-Market Shares, Forecasts and Trends," discusses the current landscape and outlook of the market.

The market for fertilizers is expected to project a composed annual growth rate of 3.5% to reach 224.2 billion in 2021. Trading of fertilizers is highly concentrated; 50-80% of the total production capacity of fertilizers is handled by five countries. Asia-Pacific, with its thriving economies and rapidly expanding population, is expected to experience the highest consumption from 2015 to 2020. South Asian countries, China and India, are driving the trade currently as the major importers of fertilizers. Sub Saharan Africa and Latin America also provide great scope of growth.

Our report on the fertilizer market is segmented as follows:

  • By Type
    • Nitrogenous
    • Phosphatic
    • Potassic
    • Others

Nitrogenous fertilizers accounts for 44% of the global fertilizers market share. Among the nitrogenous fertilizers, calcium ammonium nitrate and ammonium nitrate has largest market share. Fertilizers industry experienced a major turnaround in 2013-14 when Uralkali exited form the Belarusian Potash Crop. This resulted in a decline of fertilizer prices across the world, which inadvertently caused a deterioration in market value.

The factors affecting the market are concern for environment, supply shortages of fertilizers, volatile fertilizers prices across the globe and fertilizer supply shortage.

Some of the major players profiled in the report include: Agrium, CF Industries Holdings, K+S AG, Uralkali, Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan, Yara International, E.I. Du Pont De Nemours & Company, Monsanto Company, and others. A detailed analysis of each company along with key strategies and development are included in the study.
