BEDFORD, Mass., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- RSA Security Inc. today announced that Quixtar, the leading Health and Beauty retailer online according to Internet Retailer, has implemented an RSA Security identity and access management solution within a Microsoft(R)-centric infrastructure that encompasses nearly 2.5 million registered users and last year served more than 930,000 unique users. By enhancing Quixtar's ability to flexibly manage user access privileges while strengthening site security, Quixtar believes the new solution will help spur growth, build customer loyalty, and contribute to increased revenues for the company.
With a diverse user base that reflects the company's multiple levels of membership, the Quixtar.com site accounts for two-thirds of Quixtar's annual revenues, which topped $1 billion each of the last two years. Independent Business Owners (IBOs) earn income based on sales to IBOs, Members and Clients they register at the site, which offers a wide variety of health, beauty, and other products. IBOs participate in Quixtar's compensation plan, while Members pay an annual fee to order products at special pricing. Clients purchase products at full retail price.
Because each audience requires access to a different mix of information and applications, Quixtar decided to implement an identity and access management solution. After evaluating seven vendors, the company chose RSA ClearTrust(R) web access management software from RSA Security. The decision was based on several factors: RSA Security's strong focus on Microsoft integration, the flexibility and ease of use of RSA Smart Rules(R).technology, the overall scalability of the RSA Security solution and the expertise of RSA Professional Services.
"RSA Security's commitment to seamless integration with Microsoft environments, combined with its strong relationship with Microsoft, was a real plus," said Kurt Mast, lead business intelligence analyst for Quixtar. "When we encountered challenges in migrating our extensive user database to Microsoft(R) Active Directory(R) directory service, RSA Security acted as our engineering advocate, working with Microsoft to quickly address our requirements."
RSA ClearTrust Smart Rules technology was another factor in Quixtar's choice, enabling administrators to centrally manage user access privileges with new levels of efficiency, timeliness, consistency and security. Where the company's previous system required changes to be custom coded and implemented on 60 servers, SmartRules technology required that a change be made in only one place. This helped reduce the security gaps and sporadic access problems that were caused by incomplete or inconsistent implementation changes.
In addition to securely managing user access, the RSA ClearTrust solution has enabled Quixtar to strengthen user authentication through stricter password policies. In turn, Quixtar now positions enhanced security as a differentiator.
RSA Professional Services was instrumental to the project's success, assisting Quixtar with architecture design, solution testing, migration planning and production cutover, and deployment support. "The RSA Security team worked alongside our team, helping us implement the best configuration for our needs, stay on schedule and optimize our investment. The implementation was done with virtually no impact on our customers and our business," said Mast.
By improving the user experience and site security, Quixtar expects the solution will enhance retention rates for IBOs, attract new members and contribute to the growth of online revenues. "In choosing RSA Security as our strategic e-security partner, we have benefited not only from a great product, but also from an organization committed to our success," said Mast.
"As a leader in e-commerce, Quixtar recognizes how vital it is to manage identities and user access privileges in response to rapidly changing business requirements," said John Worrall, vice president of worldwide marketing at RSA Security. "RSA ClearTrust software is helping Quixtar achieve a set of goals that are shared by most e-commerce vendors including improving service, increasing customer loyalty and expanding revenue opportunities."
