"The 'Get Discovered' contest was a tremendous success, helping raise visibility for the great work of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the enduring popularity of the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon. 'Get Discovered' generated interest from close to 1,000 inspiring musicians from all over the world who submitted their songs via their favorite local Clear Channel Radio stations, and through our iheartradio.com music platform," said John Hogan, president and CEO of Clear Channel Radio. "For the past five years, Clear Channel Radio has shone a bright light on developing artists via its NEW! Program, and this contest is another way for us to support emerging artists and the MDA. We would like to extend our congratulations to these four winners."
"Clear Channel Radio is an amazing cause-marketing partner," said Gerald C. Weinberg, MDA president and CEO, and Telethon executive producer. "Bar none, the amount of public service promotion its 845 stations are giving MDA during the third quarter of this year is the most public service support MDA has ever received from a media partner. Plus, Clear Channel's 'Get Discovered' is bringing extraordinary new talent to help our Telethon continue to attract a more youthful audience. We're delighted to be giving these up and coming artists a great opportunity to perform live for an incredible national television audience."
A total of approximately 925 unique artists and bands entered the "Get Discovered" contest with close to 1,500 songs submitted. A Clear Channel Radio personality from each of the winners' hometown markets has notified the artist or band of his or their win. These on-air personalities also will participate in the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon by introducing the "Get Discovered" artists and bands.
The Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon will air on more than 170 "Love Network" television stations across the country from 9 PM ET on Sunday, September 5 until 6:30 PM ET the evening of Monday, September 6, 2010. It will also be streamed on the Internet at www.mda.org.
